October ‘24 - The calm before the storm
I’ve been running a little competition on my socials about my latest personal piece, there’s been quite a few correct guesses! Last chance to put a guess in as I’ll be picking the winner on Friday. Head over to my instagram or facebook and comment your ‘guess’ - hint, the answer is below…
Last year I exhibited at The Burrell Collection Market with Tea Green Events , my first Glasgow based market. I was asked numerous times why I didn't have a Ben Lomond drawing, this year I'll be ready for you Glaswegians!
I have 3 Christmas events booked in for November/December this year. I'll be exhibiting with Tea Green Events at Aberdeen Art Gallery on the 2nd and 3rd November. This will be my first market in Aberdeen city centre! I’ve done a few markets at Crathes Castle in Aberdeenshire but never in the city. I’m excited to see how it goes and meet some Aberdeen based folk. The market is free to enter. Saturday we’re open 10am - 5pm and Sunday 11am - 4pm. If you’re in the area, please come say hi and support the local businesses!
My second Christmas event is The Burrell Collection in Glasgow on the 9th and 10th November. I was lucky enough to get a spot on this market again for 2024! This is a double panelled event which means I had to apply through Tea Green and then I was shortlisted by Tea Green and put through to a second panel run by The Burrell. This second panel ultimately chose who exhibits so I’m feeling super lucky to get a space again! Last year we had 10,000 visitors over the weekend which was crazy busy, the busiest weekend The Burrell has ever had! Glasgow folks, it’s one not to miss, perfect timing for Christmas shopping and loads of the best small businesses Scotland has to offer. The market is free to enter. Saturday we’re open 10am - 5pm and Sunday 11am - 5pm.
A small break in between before my local market with Exclusively Highlands at Eden Court in Inverness on Friday 29th, Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December. This has always been a brilliant market with around 80 exhibitors (it’s a big one) - a prime weekend for Christmas shopping. Friday is often the quietest day with Saturday and Sunday getting very busy. If you don’t like crowds, I recommend coming on Friday. Exhibitors often sell out of certain handmade products as this can sometimes be their last event of the year so if you see something you like, best to get it! The market is free to enter. We’ll be open each from 10am - 5pm.
Did you know that some of my prints come in A3 size? The designs currently available for immediate dispatch are: Glenfinnan Viaduct, Helm's Deep, Loch Morlich, Ben Nevis, Ben Wyvis, Suilven, The Quiraing, Achmelvich Bay & Rockness. A3 is available as an option in the product pages of each of these prints.
If you wanted to order an A3 print in any other print, let me know. I can get these done on special order, they are normally £40 for the A3 print. Most of my original drawings are done at A4 size but they can be printed to A3 without looking stretched as I use very fine lines/dots on the originals.
October has been a busy month!
I have finished a personal work - Schiehallion - a munro I’ve been waiting to draw for a few years now. It was the last munro my dad walked up so it has a bit of a special meaning to me. Prints will be available at the end of the month.
Translated as ‘fairy hill of the Caledonians’ this iconic mountain was the chosen site of the first ever measurement of the mass of earth, by Astronomer Neville Maskelyne in 1774. When viewed from the west, & from the shores of Loch Rannoch, as in the photo above, it has an almost perfect conical shape. Schiehallion is an isolated peak, giving impressive views from the summit & is considered an easier day out, in terms of munro bagging.
My plan is to do a blog a month, we shall see if I can stick to it… Leave me some words of encouragement below to help keep me accountable!
