Franz Josef Glacier Kia - Jack Spowart Original

We took the challenging Alex Knob Trail up through dense bush early one morning. Eventually, we broke out through the bush-line to reach the end of the trail. The views that followed were some of the best I’ve ever seen. On the left, we gazed down the glaciated valley all the way to the Tasman Sea. Tracking right was an epic ridge line which ended in a series of jagged mountain peaks. Franz Josef Glacier was the focal point, front and centre, an immense expanse of ice. Upon reaching the end of the trail two Kea, the world's only alpine parrot, squawked playfully and flew around us. Eventually, one landed right in front of us. It wasn’t bothered in the slightest as we clicked away taking many photographs. I won’t forget that little moment we had with the Kea any time soon.
