New Zealand. The adventure capital of the world. I challenge you to find a better country to spend 6 months living in a van in. The truly wild west coast of the south island is very difficult to describe. It must be seen to be believed. The Milford Sound sits within the Fiorland National Park. The weather on the west coast is extreme. The night before our scheduled cruise it rained, heavily, persistently, all night. In the morning a thick, eerie fog hung low on the mountains around our campsite. The cloud began to lift as we drove down to the harbour. Mitre Peak dominates the skyline from the shore. Rising, near vertically, over a mile (1,690m) out of the Milford Sound it is a sight that isn’t forgotten easily.
