The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye have exploded in popularity over the years. I first visited on a dreich August afternoon back in 2012. We dawned wetsuits and took a dip in the freezing waters. The pools were not the serene, crystal blue that the online reviews would lead you to believe that day. After heavy rain, they turn into a raging, white water torrent. Locals were cliff jumping nearby and very few tourists had made the stroll up through Glen Brittle that afternoon. I’ve been back several times since then and on one such occasion the weather was kind. The typical fog of Glen Brittle lifted and the imposing pinnacle of Sgurr an Fheadain was revealed directly ahead. The composition lends itself to my style, a brazen mountain silhouette with foreground interest, in this case one of the main pools. After a quick sketch, I knew I’d take this composition to ink.
